چکیده
MINERVA ORTOPEDICA E TRAUMATOLOGICA 217 trend in clavicle fracture management has been non-operative with positive functional outcomes.9 However, as functional assessment is becoming more understood, surgical intervention is becoming popular. This paper will discuss the benefits of non-operative and operative treatments of mid-shaft clavicular fractures. Athletes or individuals with increased overhead activity during their daily lives should evaluate the benefits and risks of surgical intervention in order to regain full functional motion.10 However, for the sedentary person or non-active overhead individual, non-operative treatment may be of benefit to avoid surgical risks. This paper will provide an overview of clavicular functional anatomy, clavicular fracture classification, non-operative and operative options, as well as athlete specific clavicle repair.

A Rare Case of Segmental Clavicle Fracture in an Adolescent
Clavicular fractures commonly occur in adults and children. The usual mechanism of injury is a fall on the outstretched hand or direct trauma. The usual site of these fractures is the mid clavicle with lateral end and medial end clavicular fractures being less common, respectively. Segmental clavicular fractures have been reported in the literature; they usually occur at the medial and lateral ...
متن کاملOperative versus nonoperative care of displaced midshaft clavicular fractures: a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials.
BACKGROUND Recent studies have suggested benefits following primary operative fixation of substantially displaced midshaft fractures of the clavicle. We reviewed randomized clinical trials of operative versus nonoperative treatment of these fractures, and pooled the functional outcome and complication rates to arrive at summary estimates of these outcomes. METHODS A systematic review of the l...
متن کاملANEURYSMAL BONE CYST ASSOCIATED WITH A PATHOLOGIC FRACTURE OF THE MANDIBLE: A CASE REPORT AND LITERATURE REVIEW
Pathologic fractures of the jaw are usually associated with aggressive, destructive lesions or malignant lesions of the jaws. Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABC) of the jaws are benign lesions which normally do not cause destruction to such an extent. This article reports a relatively aggressive ABC of the mandible in a 19 year-old male which destroyed the buccal and lingual cortices as well as th...
متن کاملIs plating of mid-shaft clavicular fractures possible with a conventional straight 3.5 millimeter locking compression plate?
OBJECTIVES Current literature describes improved clinical outcomes and a minor rate of pseudoarthrosis following operatively treated clavicular fractures. We investigated the feasibility of using a standard 3.5 mm AO locking compression plate (LCP) of adequate length for the stabilisation of mid-shaft fractures of the clavicle. METHODS The length and acromial and diaphyseal curvature depths w...
متن کاملDisplaced mid-shaft clavicular fractures: is conservative treatment still preferred?
BACKGROUND A clavicular fracture accounts for 2.6%-5% of adult fractures. Fractures in the middle-third (OTA 15-B) represent 69%-82% of all clavicular fractures. There is no consensus among orthopedic surgeons regarding treatment for these fractures: many support conservative treatment even for displaced middle-third clavicular fractures, while others choose operative treatment. OBJECTIVES To...
